Hackers Can Break Passenger Planes Through Wi-Fi

Cyber security expert Ruben Santa marta said that he had found a method to get access to satellite communications passenger airliner over Wi-Fi and on-board entertainment system.
Santa marta will present their research at a conference on cyber security Black Hat, which will be held in Las Vegas this week. However, as is the case with other presentations that take place at these conferences, it should be noted that if the security experts can do it, it does not mean that hackers are doing it too. Santa marta himself admits he is not sure how it will hack practical in the real world, however, reports that it is able to reproduce it in the laboratory.

The potential consequences of using an exploit Santa marta obvious they affect the most common satellite communications equipment on the market. Such systems are used not only in aircraft but also in vehicles, military vehicles, as well as in industrial facilities such as oil rigs, gas pipelines and wind turbines. Exploit attacks firmware and hardware allows the hacker to manipulate avionics system, which in turn can affect the navigation.
"In some cases, to exploit this vulnerability did not require user intervention. Just send a simple SMS or a specially prepared message from one plane to another plane, said Santa marta.
Santa marta report on the Black Hat conference will enable companies producing vulnerable equipment, to find a solution for this problem.
